I am an award-winning international fine art photographer, passionate about wildlife, travel and landscapes. I share my passion for photography and nature by providing unforgettable photography experiences to keen enthusiasts and selling beautiful limited edition prints that transform emotionally cold homes and office spaces into warm, inviting ones.
Originally from South Africa I came to the UK via a PhD in Philosophy at King’s College (Cambridge University) before discovering a compelling passion for photographing the natural world and humans’ place within it. In my work I attempt to convey something of the thrill of encountering nature in all its wild beauty or experiencing a foreign culture first-hand. To me there is nothing more exciting than getting up at the crack of dawn for an early morning game drive in an African nature reserve, soaking up the atmosphere of a misty canal in Venice, or being in the right place when the sun rises over the Santa Fe Mountains in New Mexico. Depending on the image I use colour or monochrome processing to emphasise the poetic quality of the picture, always aware that it is the privilege of the artist to create beauty in a fragile world, and that photography has a role to play in preserving and conserving that beauty.
My work has been exhibited in London (Cork Street, Pall Mall, Chelsea, Bloomsbury, Mayfair), Barcelona, Kyoto and Singapore, and my pictures are held in private collections in the UK, the USA and South Africa. I have written on wildlife photography for Go! Magazine (South Africa) and my pictures have been published in the BBC Wildlife Magazine, Outdoor Photography, eXel Photo Magazine, The Telegraph Magazine (Online), Surrey Life Magazine, Go! Magazine (South Africa), The Star (Johannesburg), The Argus (Cape Town), the Natal Daily News, De Kat Magazine (South Africa), f2-Cameracraft and Art Has No Borders.
Some of my awards include: first prize in the photography category of the ArtGemini International Art Competition in 2015 (and reaching the finals again in 2016); reaching the finals of the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition in 2014 and 2015; Runner-Up Winner in the Art Has No Borders International Art Competition on the Animal Kingdom in 2014; Highly Commended in the USA Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition in 2014; shortlisted for the East West Art Awards in 2014; and selected to be one of four Artists in Residence at the JARFO Gallery in Kyoto, Japan, in April 2015.
